Join us on this winter solstice as we come together to usher in the light of a new year on Saturday 21st of December, for our monthly Inipi ceremony. This sacred ritual is an opportunity for self-reflection, connection to the natural realms, and finding balance in life. Each month, we connect with a different energy from the Lakota cosmogony, offering specific focuses and new insights into life and creation.Schedule:
1:00 PM: Arrival and preparation of the space and fire. Those who wish to help are welcome to arrive early.
Inipi Ceremony: Cleansing of the mind, body, and spirit through the ceremony.
Chanupa Ceremony: Smoking the “Sacred Pipe” to take the community prayer to spirit and close the circle.
Shared Meal: After the ceremony, we share food and enjoy each other’s company.
What to Bring:
Appropriate Clothing: Dress for the weather and the Inipi ceremony. Men should wear shirts, and women should wear dresses or skirts with shoulders covered.
Dish to Share: Please bring food that supports the mind, body, and spirit.
Tobacco Offering: For the water pourer and fire keepers. This offering is traditionally wrapped in red cloth. It can be as small as rolled tobacco or a larger bag with red fabric tied around it.
Head-sized Stones or Firewood: For the ceremony fire.
Additional Information
Whether this is your first time or you are a returning participant, we welcome you to join us in praying, purifying, learning, and celebrating life together. This is a community event; donations are appreciated but not required. They help support the ongoing prayer and maintenance of the lodge area, fire, and meal preparations. Donations can be made in person or via Venmo at @thousandsuns-cme.
Important Note
The sweat lodge ceremony is a community ceremony free from mind-altering substances. It has been given to us by the spirits of the old ways, supporting our healing as we pray and sing in specific ways. These traditions have been carried for thousands of years, and we hold this medicine very gratefully. The ceremony is led by Patrick, a Sundancer in the Lakota tradition and a water pourer under Chief Alfonso Castillo.
All are welcome to come and pray, purify, and align on an elemental level, allowing our prayers to manifest and our human selves to align with our true spiritual nature. There is space to learn and grow in this container, welcoming all levels of awareness with a common desire to pray and be whole.
