A NEW MULTI-DISCIPLINARY PERFORMANCE SERIES AT NØRREBRO TEATERNørrebro Teater, inter.pblc and Brodie are proud to present SOCKS & STILETTOS.
SOCKS & STILETTOS is a new experimental performance series that, for each edition, invites a newly curated group of selected artists working across different genres and artistic forms. By bringing together three artists and new artworks with the theatre stage as a platform, the ambition of SOCKS & STILETTOS is to create a new understanding of the stage space’s potential for visual movement and fusion.
The format spans a wide range of artistic practices, including visual art, music, sound, performance, video, and choreography, featuring both national and international artists. Based on the artists’ new works, a staged narrative is developed collaboratively within a constructed, surreal, and extraordinary performance space curated by inter.pblc and Brodie.
The performance runs approximately 75 minutes and will be a recurring format at Nørrebro Teater, presented under new themes.
1st edition: VAR 14.04.26
The first edition of SOCKS & STILETTOS takes VAR (Video Assistant Referee) as its theme, with three artists; contemporary artist Sara Sjölin, Danish sound artist and musician Soli City and performance artist and choreographer Thjerza Balaj.
Together, they will explore the constant surveillance, power, and repetition that we, as individuals in a modern society, are subjected to. Everything is registered, leaving little room for chance or for what is taken for granted as natural — what does this surveillance and control mean for our perception of reality?
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
SARA SJÖLIN (SE/CH): Visual artist whose primary practice revolves around film, speech, performance, and installation. Her work explores comedy rooted in tragedy, where feelings of anxiety or discomfort are transformed through art into moments of love and laughter.
SOLI CITY (DK): Sound artist, musician, and composer. Soli City is operating at the intersection of classical music traditions, electronic structures, and a media-critical gaze on contemporary life. Rooted in a post-digital sensibility, Soli City unfolds through composition, performance, and installation – where sound, light, and space merge into immersive situations that examine connection, consumption, and transformation.
Soli City’s music orbits synthetic voices, polished strings, and radical collage techniques, shaping a gleaming auditory surface in which joy and sorrow, acceleration and dissolution, can coexist. With a distinct emotional clarity beneath its high-definition textures, the work investigates the contrasts that define our relationship to media culture and the world around us – inviting listeners into an experience that is both intimate and sharply contemporary
THJERZA BALAJ (NO/DK): Performance artist, dancer and choreographer from the Danish National school of Performaing Arts and the Royal Conservatory in Antwerpen, and is currently based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Immediacy and intimacy are central elements in her work. Her choreographic practice explores the female gaze, power dynamic, and the uncanny. Playing with shifting instensity is a consistent approach in her seemingly rigorous yet ephemeral practice.
SOCKS & STILETTOS is created by Nørrebro Teater, inter.pblc and Brodie.
