Have you ever been interested in different kinds of snowshoes or wanted to make your own pair? Join teacher and board member Laurie Hylen as she leads participants in creating their own unique pair of snowshoes. We will be following the Ojibwe style of snowshoes which are long and narrow, with both a tail and a pointed, up-turned toe. Session 1 will consist of getting kits and materials prepared and beginning our snowshoe creations. In Session 2, participants will finish lacing their snowshoes and get instructions for sealing them and adding bindings at home prior to use. Please indicate your preferred snowshoe size according to the following guidelines, which include the weight of your body and any gear: Youth: age 6 to about 120 lbs. Small: age 8 to about 140 lbs. Medium: 130 lbs. to about 240 lbs. Large: 6’ tall and 210 lbs. and up. As a rule, smaller shoes are easier to walk on. If close to a size break, choose larger shoes if you have long legs, wear a hefty pack, regularly break trail, or have light, fluffy snow. Choose smaller shoes for shorter legs, denser snow, or packed trails (even if new snow covers the old tracks). Recommended for ages 14 and up. Children under 14 should work together on one pair with a supervising adult.Saturday, November 9, 9 am-Noon and Sunday, November 10, Noon-3 pm

Includes wooden frames, tubular nylon lacing, bindings, sealant, and both workshop sessions
