Create your own textile art, using still life 'green sketching' to design a simple motif and slow, sashiko-style stitches to represent it.Ticket price: £20
Starting with some simple, still life ‘green sketching’* with additional inspiration from vintage nature books, you’ll create a simple motif for your slow stitching piece. After transferring your design onto found fabric you will be gently guided through the process of using simple, slow, sashiko style, hand-stitches to create your own work of art.
The aim is to enjoy the process rather than focus on the outcome and take away new relaxing, creative skills that you can practise at home.
* Green sketching (developed by Dr Ali Foxon) is for all abilities, whether you’re an absolute beginner or an accomplished artist. The purpose is to relax, observe nature around you and have fun making marks in response to what you see and feel. It’s not about producing an accurate representation of what you see, but is about enjoying the moment.
Suitable for beginners. Accompanied children over 12 years old are welcome (ticket price £15, email [email protected] to book).
Class sizes are kept small making sure that everyone gets attention and assistance when needed.
We will provide:
• all sketching and sewing materials and tools, including found fabric and thread, but feel free to bring your own too
• organic, Fairtrade hot and cold drinks and plant-based cake
What to bring
• Your own sewing and sketching materials if you prefer.
This relaxed pace, small group workshop will be led by Karen Bentley-Brown, business and wellbeing coach, founder of Simply Repair South Lakes and Future Fixers CIC and a Green Sketch Ambassador. With a background in Geography and environmental education, Karen has a passion for connecting people with nature and with themselves. She loves to share her experiences of sketching nature, journaling and mindful mending.
Being accessible and inclusive to everyone is important to us at Simply Repair. If you want to join us on any of the workshops but financial circumstances prevent this, please get in touch at [email protected] so we can help. All requests are confidential, and we offer a no questions asked policy. We will do our best to accommodate but, in the event where the workshop is already full, we can discuss future options.
