A relaxed, guided photography walk for beginners, exploring the streets and historic architecture of Tunbridge Wells.
About this Event

Join photographer and experienced workshop facilitator Adele Watts for a gentle photography walk from Tunbridge Wells station, through the High Street and Chapel Place, and down to The Pantiles.

Through simple photographic prompts, we’ll explore light, reflections, architectural details, pattern, colour and the changing atmosphere of the streets around us.

The emphasis is on slowing down, looking more closely and enjoying the process—not technical expertise or taking the “perfect” photograph.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. You can use a smartphone or bring a digital camera.

What we’ll do
  • Begin with a relaxed introduction and some practical tips for taking photographs with a mobile phone
  • Explore composition, framing and different viewpoints
  • Notice reflections, shopfronts, signs and small street details
  • Photograph the Georgian architecture, colonnades and atmosphere of The Pantiles
  • Spend some time following your own visual curiosity
  • Finish with a brief reflection and optional Q&A

You’re welcome to bring a digital camera, but this won’t be a technical digital-camera workshop. The exercises will focus primarily on looking, composition and creativity rather than detailed camera settings.

There is no pressure to share your photographs or keep up with anybody else. You’ll be encouraged to work at your own pace.

Who it’s for

Adults who are new to photography—or returning to it—and would enjoy a calm, creative morning exploring Tunbridge Wells.

What to bring
  • A smartphone or digital camera
  • A fully charged battery
  • Enough free storage space on your phone or memory card
  • Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing

Accessibility

The walk from Tunbridge Wells station to The Pantiles is downhill, with an uphill return journey afterwards. The Pantiles also includes changes of level, and not every area is accessible without using steps.

The workshop route can be adapted to remain on accessible paths, although this may mean that some parts of The Pantiles are not included.

Wheelchair users are very welcome. If you require assistance, please attend with someone who can provide the support you need, as I will be responsible for leading the group. An accompanying support person may attend free of charge; please contact me in advance so I can reserve their place and discuss the route with you.
