Ring in the New Year with star pianist, Maxim Lando, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue! Written in 1924, Rhapsody in Blue has come to symbolize the assimilation of jazz and popular style into the orchestral canon. Another feature, is Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.1, written when the composer was just 18 years old, it is a virtuoso piece in one continuous movement. Opening both halves are Hollywood icons, John Williams’ Hymn to New England and Michael Abels’ Global Warming. An evening of celebration and the title taken from 1992 to symbolically refer to the “warming” of international relations (and not so much about climate change).
