About this workshop:
Understanding the market potential of your business idea is important in assessing the viability of your business in the short and the long term and vital in developing a proposition for potential investors. With paid-for market research information out of reach for most start-ups, the first challenge is to find market sizing information that is affordable (free!) and relevant. The second challenge is to then find a means of constructing a meaningful market structure model that enables a total, accessible, and service-obtainable market to be estimated. Lastly, this should then also provide a basis for identifying and validating a route to those markets.
This workshop will introduce a worked example as a means of illustrating some key principles in the process of market sizing for startups. At each step, the attendees will work on applying these ideas to their own businesses with the help, in breakout rooms, of the course leader and mentors.
Outcomes: Attendees should leave the course with:
· An understanding of potential information sources;
· Key principles for market sizing illustrated in a worked example
· An initial iteration of market sizing for their own business
This is a hands-on workshop and will require participants to work on their own businesses. As such attendees must come with an understanding of at least one of their customers, to have developed a value proposition for those customers, and to be able to share their thoughts and collaborate on questions of market sizing with other attendees.
