A pioneering Singapore symposium uniting lullabies, the arts, music therapy, and mental health for community and environmental wellness.
About this Event

The Singapore First: Songs and Lullabies Symposium is an immersive and experiential exploration of one of humanity’s most ancient and universal song forms - the Lullaby. Moving beyond its traditional role as a bedtime ritual, the symposium examines the lullaby as a therapeutic modality at the intersection of science, heritage, arts, and music therapy practice. By bridging artistic practice, healthcare, and community engagement, this platform highlights how lullabies support psychosocial health across the life span - from prenatal bonding and early childhood development to emotional regulation, trauma-informed care, and end-of-life transitions. Through guided listening, participatory singing, and reflective processes informed by music therapy and singing frameworks, participants are invited and critically engage with the evolving role of lullabies in contemporary well-being.

PROGRAMME

  • Scholarly Inquiry: Lectures and panel discussions exploring the science, heritage, arts, and the healing power of songs and lullabies.
  • Story-Song Session: Interactive presentations providing insights into unique lullabies spanning different continents, life stages, and types.
  • The Symposium’s Finale Performance Practice/Filming Session: An evening session curated by Assoc. Prof Janne Iren Robberstad on the Science in Making Peace through the form of opera and an interactive premiere presentation of the collectively created mini-opera scenes from Pre-Symposium Part II, titled: A Cradle of Lullabies for World Peace
