Simon Poulter: Turner in Middlesbrough
About this Event
Discover Middlesbrough through the eyes of J.M.W. Turner. Artist Simon Poulter presents a stunning, large-scale watercolour of the town, created using traditional 19th-century techniques and shaped by crowd-sourced suggestions from local residents. The finished masterpiece will be displayed in a custom mobile viewing case at Centre Square throughout the exhibition.
Alongside the installation, join Simon Poulter for an insightful lecture exploring Turner’s revolutionary artistic practice. This talk will dive into the history of colour chemistry, including the 1820s introduction of synthetic pigments like Chrome Yellow and examine how Turner’s radical handling of light and atmosphere in his late watercolours directly paved the way for modern abstract art.
