Rótulos Latinoamericanos a Mero Pincel is an introduction to the vibrant tradition of South American hand-painted signwriting.
Across Latin America, hand-painted signs have played an essential role in communicating ideas, advertising local businesses, and creating a strong visual identity within neighbourhoods and public spaces. More than decoration, these signs tell stories of communities, traditions, and everyday life.
From the colourful Chicha lettering of Peru to the distinctive styles found across Colombia, Argentina, Mexico and beyond, these hand-painted typographic traditions have become cultural icons. Today, artists and sign painters around the world are helping revive these traditional techniques as an alternative to digital design, celebrating craftsmanship, brush skills and local identity.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, you'll explore the history and visual language of Latin American sign painting while learning the fundamentals of traditional brush lettering. Together we'll cover:
