Following the one-and-a-half-hour trash pickup with provided trash pickers and bags, Ralph White, former director of the James River Park System, will give a 20-30 minute talk about the history of Ancarrow's Landing. This spot was a major port in the massive Slave Trade that made Richmond the largest source of enslaved Africans on the east coast of America from 1830 to 1860. For decades, a chemical plant operated here, but successful remediation and restoration have made it a prime fishing spot and is where anglers compete during the annual run of native shad.
Shavon Peacock and Ralph Grove are the Sierra Club outing leaders.
