Shibori Party
About this Event
Shibori means “to wring” or “to squeeze” in Japanese and is a resist-dyeing technique similar to tie-dye. Instead of using rainbow color, it uses pure indigo dye to achieve luscious, deep blues on a natural fiber cloth. As a dye-resist technique, shibori patterns can be made by reducing the surface area exposed to the dye. This is done with scrunching, wrapping and binding the fabric in different ways around different tools. Anything exposed will be dyed indigo, while anything “scrunched”, “bunched” or bound remains the fabric’s original color (in this case white).
There is a limit to 5 participants. Participants must be 15 or older. Event will take place outside, so participants should bring adequate refreshments and dress appropriately. Event is weather-permitting. All participants will be given 1 free 100% cotton tote bag to dye. Additional items should be brought by the participant and should be 100% cotton and pre-washed (let air dry) before the event. Gloves and aprons will be provided by the event, but participants should still wear clothes they can get messy.
