About Aerie Literary Press:
Aerie Literary Press is devoted to publishing outstanding works of poetry, fiction, memoir, and drama. We feature exceptional literature that explores the intersection of consciousness and the world we live in. With each book published, our goal is to foster a rich appreciation of common human experience and forge dialogue that nourishes insight and engagement with the world. We champion outstanding writers at an early stage who appeal to adventurous readers seeking fresh, underrepresented, and diverse voices. We believe works of literature cultivate reader consciousness and enrich the wider culture.
Our mission is to publish stories and poems that excavate the illusory world of literary fiction–––tragic, comic, mysterious, heartfelt–––that traverse emotional and intellectual landscapes, arriving at fundamental insights, driven by the sound and rhythm of narrative with a clear-eyed objective: to connect with our readers.
Within our pages, all the work of Wheeler’s Aerie students is exceptional writing–––filled with humor, irony, and angst–––that informs and entertains in equal proportion. Our writers mine everything from observing delphiniums, to changing traffic lanes, to sauntering along the Seine, personalizing the meaning of faith, loss, love, perseverance, identity; what it means to be authentic. They also probe ideas of home, family, responsibility, the liberating hope of tomorrow. There are also stories that question life and death, self-destructive behavior, race, gender, and sexuality; and on the lighter side, there is humor, lots of humor, as well as requisite fantasies teeming with all manner of supernatural occurrence!
Our imprint features the owl, traditionally representing or accompanying Athena, goddess of wisdom, or Minerva, her syncretic incarnation in Roman mythology. Our bird is stamped into our books for a purpose: to promote insight, knowledge, positive transformation, and intuitive development.
