This class is FREE. Lunch is Provided. CLE credits available and open to anyone to attend.

In this class we will discuss:

• To provide tools for communicating in a culturally competent and professional manner;
• Basic Culturally Competent Language
• First-Person / People-First Language
• To explore Foundations for Crucial Conversations in Today’s Climate;
• Transparent Communication (Persuasive versus Abrasive Language)
• Understanding Historical Impacts
• To bring awareness to the impact of ‘Social Othering’ as Discrimination
• Encounters with Youth who experience cognitive disorders and/or physical disabilities
• Encounters with Youth who experience Trauma
• To illuminate awareness of current socio-cultural climate that might impact youth behavior;
• Geo-Political Environmental Impacts
• Poverty as an Influence to Social Misbehavior and Academic Achievement
• To provide a platform for juvenile professionals and authorities, community activists, and other youth workers to share recent experiences and best practices for combatting the current social climate that impacts youths;
• Make youth professionals aware of the importance of divergent activities as alternative behavior modifications;
• To encourage educators to seek means to strengthen collaboration between schools, juvenile justice systems, and community youth advocates.
