About this Event
Please note that this workshop is for UCL staff only; please sign up with your UCL email address.
UCL boasts a rich collective expertise and a long history of interdisciplinary research in understanding the complex, changing ties among people, communities and cultures. Since 2011, UCL's Grand Challenge of Cultural Understanding has sought to navigate the complex differences between diverse backgrounds. These include beliefs, values, practices, and world-views. It has funded interdisciplinary teams with over £425,000 and generated over £700,000 in additional funding for research and partnerships in religion, politics, and heritage.
Building on the transformative success of the Grand Challenge of Cultural Understanding, the new UCL Grand Challenge of Intercultural Communication is embarking on a five-year programme of activities. The theme aims to bring together colleagues from diverse disciplines across UCL and harness their expertise to benefit both our university, community and society, more broadly.
Join us for our inaugural workshop, where participants will connect with colleagues, delve into insights from our internal scoping review, and hear from the Cultural Understanding Co‑Chairs alongside lightning talks from across the UCL community on what Intercultural Communication means in practice. Together, we’ll help shape the direction of this new theme and learn more about the exciting new Pro‑Vice‑Provost for Intercultural Communication role, launching in April.
Please join us at 13.00 for a networking lunch. The main session will start at 14:00 and conclude at 16.00.
The event will take place on Thursday, 30 April, from 13.00 - 16.00 at Elvin Hall, IOE, 20 Bedford Way, London, WC1H 0AL.
