Who, looking for adventures in the world,
Was by the rough seas reft of ships and men,
And after shipwreck driven upon this shore.”
Yes folks, Boozy Bard is on the high seas and off them and on them again as we perform ‘Pericles’!. And as always, we'll be doing it in the style we've brought forth into the world "Shakespeare Raw".
How does it work? I'm glad you asked.
A group of actors arrive the day of the show having read (or at least skimmed) the script so they are at passingly familiar with the text. Then, they pull a character name from the casting director (aka the Hat) to learn who they will be playing that night. They then have approximately 10 minutes to get into character (read: grab a drink) and get ready for their first scene. And the next one. And the one after that. You get the idea.
"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist:
Pericles is the young Prince of Tyre. He has Power. He has Position. He has Positivity. But what he wants most in life is a Lady by his side. He goes out adventuring, as one does, to find such a Lady. He encounters puzzles, assassins, shipwreck, famine, different shipwreck, teasing, jousting, marriage, fatherhood, and more shipwreck.
Then, during intermission, 14 years pass…
And Pirates!
You'll have three opportunities to catch this spectacle, June 8th, 9th and 10th all at 7:30pm. Doors officially open at 7pm.
The location? Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. Yeah, the one that looks like a castle. We're doing Shakespeare in a CASTLE!!! A castle with on-street parking.
Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you dress like a pirate. You’ve got all sorts of fun options for possible pirate dressing. ….you know…. You really want suggestions? Okay, fair; spark those creative juices a bit. There’s the ‘Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me’ type pirates. Wear a baseball related shirt from the team in Pittsburgh. Show the person at the door your hard drive with downloaded movies on it. All sorts of options! Do that type of thing and you still have another $5 you can spend at the bar.
“I said, my lord, if you did know my parentage, You would not do me violence.”
Where is it happening?
