The Merry Wives of Windsor is Shakespeare’s love letter to the brilliant women in his life. Written on request of Queen Elizabeth, Merry Wives is the only Shakepearean play that doesn't deal with royalty or the supernatural, but rather the common people of the day. This makes it easily Shakespeare’s most relatable play to modern audiences. Everyone understands jealousy, love, and most importantly making sure someone gets the comeuppance that they deserve. While the audience should not feel sorry for Falstaff, they definitely should laugh at his folly. The Wives spend all their time completely outsmarting all the men in their lives, and its worth celebrating.
