Shakespeare at Sunset - Live Theater at Avondale Estates Town Green

NEW DATE ADDED: The Taming of the Shrew will now occur on November 7, 2026
After two successful seasons of bringing professional Shakespeare to the Avondale Estates Town Green, the popular community series formerly known as A Shakespeare Happening is entering an exciting new chapter as Shakespeare at Sunset.
This fall's performances will take place at dusk, positioning classic Shakespearean tales under a brand-new light.
Building on the success of its first two seasons, the newly branded series continues its partnership with the City of Avondale Estates and is proudly powered by the Office of DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry, Super District 6.
Produced by Nicole Sage through Bard x Sage PR, the series continues to make professional Shakespeare accessible to all audiences. The Fall 2026 series will feature a new collaboration with Georgia Classic Theatre.
Founded by longtime Shakespeare actor and director Allen O'Reilly, the company features many accomplished artists whose careers include performances with the former Georgia Shakespeare which operated at Oglethorpe University from 1985 until 2014, continuing a rich tradition of classical theatre in metro Atlanta.
The Avondale Estates Town Green will once again serve as a vibrant backdrop for free, accessible, classic theater. Local restaurants Green Coyote, Cremalosa, and Skips are all within walking distance, so feel free to grab a meal and bring it over to enjoy while watching the performance.
Free to attend, suitable for all ages. Picnic blankets and chairs encouraged.
