About this Event
Mark Agnew and his three teammates made history when they paddled the length of the Arctic's Northwest Passage. They were the first team to kayak the entire Arctic route, and the first team to do it under human power, with no motors or sails, in a single summer. Join us at the Shackleton Flagship store at 214 Piccadilly to hear all about this world-first expedition.
The Arctic Cowboys, as the team were called, kayaked for 103 days, facing storms, polar bears, fatigue and shifting sea ice. The predicted expedition completion date was at the end of the summer, however due to a host of challenges including getting trapped in the ice, the expedition continued into the grips of winter, where the team perservered, finally ending their journey in October.
Join us at the Shackleton Flagship store to hear Mark's insightful and humorous account of this journey, complete with plenty of gripping near-death experiences.
The expedition was ranked in the top 10 Greatest Kayaking Expeditions of the Century (so far) by Paddling Magazine. Mark was awarded European Adventurer of the Year, Endurance Asia's Extraordinary Feat of the Year and rated Top Explorer by World Explorer Collective.
Mark, 33, is from Edinburgh and now lives in London. He spent his 20s in Hong Kong, where he worked as the adventure sports editor for the South China Morning Post. He now works as a keynote speaker, author and journalist.
