Sgt. Gregory “Cole” Gardner has been employed with the Norman Police Department since October of 2009. He completed the 47th Norman Police Academy and then began the field training program in March of 2010. Sgt. Gardner is currently assigned to Dayshift Patrol which works 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
In 2014 Sgt. Gardner became a Police Training Officer, training new officers after they graduate the academy. Sgt. Gardner also joined the Bike Team and Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team (CIRT) that same year. He was a member of CIRT for about five years and a member of the bike team for 10 years. He is a current member of the Norman Pistol Team and has been competitively shooting since about 2011.
In 2019 Sgt. Gardner began the 190 hour course to become a firearms instructor. This was completed in January of 2020. In February of 2020 Sgt. Gardner became an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Instructor by completing the 40 hour Train the Trainer course. Sgt. Gardner has been helping with academy firearms training since about 2016. He has trained cadets at the Norman Police Academy, The MNTC Basic Peace Officer Academy, and CLEET Academy in Ada.
