The interplay between mental health, infertility, and sexuality is complex and multifaceted. Through engaging discussions and interactive sessions, Kate Ernstrom, LCSW, CST, PMH-C, and Gabby Pendley, LCSW, CADC, PMH-C will explore the emotional, psychological, and relational challenges faced by individuals and couples navigating infertility within diverse sexual identities. By exploring the intersectionality of these experiences, attendees will develop sensitivity to the unique needs and vulnerabilities of individuals and couples affected by infertility, while also fostering inclusive and affirming approaches to mental health support. Ultimately, the training seeks to equip mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide compassionate, attuned, and culturally competent care to clients grappling with the emotional complexities of infertility and sexuality.
Learning objectives
1. Recognize the emotional and psychological impact of infertility on individuals and couples, particularly how sexuality and gender identity influence these experiences.
2. Address the unique challenges and vulnerabilities of diverse populations facing infertility, and develop strategies for culturally competent mental health support related to sexual health.
3. Discuss the role of stigma, societal pressures, and internalized beliefs surrounding infertility and sexuality, and explore ways to promote resilience and coping strategies.
4. Understand the ethical considerations and best practices for addressing the mental health needs of clients dealing with infertility in the context of their sexual identities.
5. Apply evidence-based interventions to help clients process and manage stress, and foster emotional well-being amidst the challenges of infertility and sexuality.
1.5 CEUs for social workers, clinical professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and clinical psychologists are offered upon completion.
1.5 hours to obtain or renew the PMH-C.
