About this Event

Welcome to our Sewing Machine Skills Series. This is a 4 week course, beginning on March 8th and continuing for 4 consecutive weeks (March 8,15,22,29).

Each class is two hours long from 5-7 pm.

We begin with teaching you how to operate a sewing machine from scratch. We'll look at the mechanics of different types of machines from manual to digital, plus you'll become confident with winding a bobbin, threading the machine and figuring out how to adjust your tension rate as well as explore special stitching techniques.

In the second lesson, we'll complete a small project. You'll learn how to cut a pattern to exact measurements, sew all the elements together like a pro and troubleshoot along the way. You'll also learn how to make alterations to the pattern if you would like make a smaller or larger size.

In lessons 3 and 4, we'll teach you how to draft a pattern on your own from an existing garment. You'll learn how to take measurements from the garment itself and translate that to a paper pattern. Then we'll use that pattern to sew an exact replica of the original. This full circle approach helps you to break down the components of a pattern in order to understand exactly how everything comes together in any machine sewn project.

After completion of this course, you'll feel comfortable sewing anything on your own. And because we have 3 different types of machines in the workshop, it's a great opportunity to see what type of machine you like best if you're deciding to purchase your own sewing machine after the series.

All supplies are included in the ticket price.

**** If you have taken our Sewing Machine Basics Workshop in the past, feel free to join us in this workshop for weeks 2,3 &4. Send us an email or message us through our website and you can pay for a reduced ticket in store or via etransfer. The ticket price for a 3 part class would be $150.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
