What You Experience And How It Comes To Your Everyday Life
Setsubun is a unique opportunity to witness a traditional Japanese Buddhist ceremony celebrating the transition from winter to spring. This year’s observance will feature special Buddhist chanting alongside a live painting session by Satsuki Shibuya, an energetic artist who channels and translates subtle energies into visual form.
During the service, she will create a live painting by attuning to the energy generated through chanting, prayer, and shared presence. Rather than following a plan, the painting emerges in real time as a direct translation of what is sensed in the space, expressed through color, movement, and form.
The finished work carries the energetic imprint of the service itself, reflecting the movement of prayer as it unfolds.
The entire original colored painting is cut into smaller pieces so that everyone may take one home. We are grateful for the artist Satsuki's care and generous offering, which captures the essence of each person who gathers. This one of a kind charm (called O-mamori in Japanese) continues to emanate the energy of this special day and remind us of the interconnected nature of all of our life.
