Carnegie Hall’s Second Stage Series continues with Seth Maynard on Thursday, November 14, at 7 p.m. in the Old Stone Room. Guests are invited to come early for the Second Stage Lounge from 6 – 6:45 p.m. A cash bar and snacks will be available.Seth Maynard's years of training at Berklee College of Music are evident in his skillful and colorful guitar and vocal stylings in various genres of music. He logs as many as 100 performances each year at regional venues and serves as Adjunct Music Faculty at West Virginia Wesleyan College and Davis & Elkins College. He performs nationally and regionally as a solo act, with duo partners, and many other ensembles. You can catch him performing regularly on the WBOY 12News program 304 Today with host Lauren Winans (Music Mondays). Seth and Lauren will release an EP of original pop/rock songs this spring, written by the duo and recorded with WVU music students at Mon Hills Studio, Morgantown, WV.
Seth is the guitarist for Queen City Funk & Soul, an 11-piece dance band based out of Cumberland, MD, and recently joined the Robinson Grand Theater (Clarksburg, WV) house band, The '39 Fire, as guitarist and vocalist. You can also hear him performing this summer with The Elk River Ramblers trio and as bassist/singer for the praise team at First United Methodist Church in Elkins, WV, almost every Sunday morning. He has worked with Manchester Craftsmen's Guild Jazz, known as MCG Jazz, based in Pittsburgh, PA, to bring jazz education and performance to public school systems in West Virginia and Pennsylvania for the last 7 years. And Seth joined forces last summer with the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, WV to teach guitar to youth and adults.
Maintaining contact with local artists and students is important; Seth has been teaching guitar, bass, voice, and general music lessons privately for more than 35 years, keeping a roster of 8-10 private students ranging from 8 to 74 years old. Supporting local arts and community organizations is also a key factor, and Seth has often performed for local/regional fundraisers, such as The Humane Society, Relay For Life, Davis Health Foundation, the Elkins Randolph County Arts Center, Rotary Polio Elimination Concerts, the YMCA, as well as public/private schools, churches, and senior centers.
Seth has four album releases: "Osmosis"(2010) features his guitar playing and songwriting in a modern jazz/fusion instrumental context. "Make The Season Bright"(2012) and "Christmas Time Is Here"(2016), collaborations with other area musicians filled with unique versions of many holiday favorites. And "Duo Primo"(2016), a collection of jazz standards in duet with sax/flute/clarinet player Randall Hall. Seth celebrates more than 40 years as an active musician, performer, teacher, and music producer. He also owns and operates his own recording studio (formerly Lone Wolf Productions) where his recording/producing/performing credits are numerous.
The Second Stage Series consists of five special events that take place in the Old Stone Room located on the ground floor of the Hall. The intimate setting creates a “speak easy” vibe with an eclectic line-up of entertainment. Seating is general admission.
