"Are you curious about Gulf or Iraqi dance?
Do you get them confused, or would you like to learn more about them?
Then join us and take one, or both, of these beginner-friendly, introductory workshops for one Gulf dance, and one Iraqi dance. Part lecture, part movement, enjoy learning about the rhythms, social background, music, and basic steps of these folkloric styles.
Raqs Khaleeji, sometimes also called Raqs al Nasha'al or Raqs al Na'asha, is a dance from the Arabic Gulf utilizing the thobe al nasha'al garment. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring thobes if they have them; Chloe will bring some for showing as well.
Raqs al Hajaa, sometimes spelled Raqs al Hechaa, is one of the folkloric dances from Iraq. This can be danced with or without daggers, or with sagaat (zills). Workshop participants are encouraged to bring daggers if they have them, or butter knives to practice. "
Take both workshops and the lecture is included.
