Sense the Earth – Dance your Feet – Feldenkrais & Nia workshop
Sunday 22nd March 2pm-4.30pm – Te Uku Community Hall, Raglan - $49 per person
Your feet are the base and primary support for your whole body. Create a deeper sense of connection with your feet, the earth and gravity to allow better freedom of movement through your whole body from the floor to standing and dancing.
This unique somatic movement workshop has been created by Alina from Koru Movement (https://www.korumovement.co.nz/) and Catherine from Your Innate Healing Intelligence (YIHI) (https://www.facebook.com/CatherineWestonYIHI). Beginning with a Feldenkrais session on the floor with Alina before moving into a Nia class experience with Catherine.
PLEASE BRING WITH YOU:
* Yoga Mat
* Small blanket
* 2 small towels (to fold to support your head)
* light layers of clothing to move on the floor and to dance in
* water bottle
About Alina’s session:
Alina will guide you through a gentle Awareness Through Movement lesson that will help you connect more with your feet and heighten your sensory awareness. What does it mean to use the ground for better movement control and energy? You’ll explore your feet’s connection to the ground, and how you can use this close relationship as a foundation for your movement when upright in gravity, optimising your skeletal support. See how your movement can then become freer and more refined.
About the Nia Class experience:
Catherine will lead you through the 7 cycles of a Nia class gently emerging from your Feldenkrais session with Alina. Weaving in the specific Nia foot movements while you dance. You are invited to personalize your movements to express your dance in your body's way before completing the return journey to the floor. An eclectic playlist has been specifically curated to deepen your movement experience.
About Alina:
Alina is a Certified Feldenkrais practitioner, and she’s been teaching Feldenkrais® group classes and workshops since 2018. Alina is also a social Argentine tango dancer, bringing her professional knowledge of movement to her dancing and sharing it with other dancers. She is a mother of three and lives with her family in rural Waikato. Her regular classes take place in Hamilton, and she’s been teaching workshops in Wellington and Auckland as well.
About Catherine:
Catherine is a licensed Nia technique teacher and has been teaching since 2018. Catherine currently teaches four Nia classes per week including Classic Nia, Gentle Nia & Chair Nia in Raglan, Te Uku & Hamilton. Catherine is also a qualified EFT & Access Bars Practitioner. Catherine loves social dancing with her husband and son. She dances Ballroom, Latin & Modern Jive. She is a mother to one teenage son and lives in Raglan.
About the Feldenkrais Method:
The Feldenkrais Method® belongs to the field of somatic education (experiential learning that involves senses, perceptions, and mind-body action and reaction). It uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of doing what they like. It is a practical application of neuroplasticity: the science of how the brain can change at any age. The health benefits are: muscular ease, increased vitality, fewer pain meds, but also mental wellbeing and better self-care.
About the Nia technique:
Nia technique was developed in the 1980s in USA by Debbie & Carlos Rosas. It is a unique somatic movement practice that combines nine movement forms from Martial Arts, Dance, Postural and Somatic movement including the work of Moshe Feldenkrais. Nia uses the design of the body as a map when combined with 52 specific movements and inspiring world music creates a unique somatic movement experience. Nia nourishes the body, calms the mind, expresses emotions & is personalized by your spirit.
