When the Dashwood sisters suddenly find themselves short on money but long on unsolicited opinions, they must navigate love, heartbreak, and social expectations that are anything but forgiving. Practical Elinor believes in keeping feelings under control; passionate Marianne believes in feeling everything, immediately. The result? A whirlwind of romance, misunderstandings, and very public emotional chaos.
Known for her fast-paced, actor-driven adaptations, playwright Kate Hamill transforms Austen’s classic novel into a theatrical romp full of sharp humor, physical comedy, and modern sensibility—while staying true to the story’s heart. The production features gleeful “gossips”, live harpsichord music altering modern tunes, ala “Bridgerton”, bold storytelling, and a playful tone that invites audiences to laugh at the absurdity of polite society and cheer for characters who dare to feel deeply.
“This adaptation lets everyone enjoy the brilliance of Jane Austen,” says Lagodzinski. “It’s joyful, surprising, and unapologetically sassy. You don’t need to know the novel to fall in love with all the characters.”
Romantic, irreverent, and endlessly entertaining, Sense & Sensibility is perfect for longtime Austen fans and newcomers alike—especially those who enjoy big laughs, big feelings, and stories that remind us love has always been complicated.
Performances run March 13/14/20/21 at 8pm, and March 15 & 22 at 2pm. Tickets are available at https://lpc.ludus.com/.
