About this Event

What is the Senior Health Fair?

The Senior Health Fair is an annual event hosted by the City of Waterloo where seniors and care providers are able to learn about resources and supports available in our community. Funding is provided by the City of Waterloo, KW4 Ontario Health Team and the Government of Ontario, through grant funding distributed by the Older Adult Centres' Association of Ontario (OACAO) for Senior Active Living Fairs.


Who should attend?

  • Individuals aged 55+ living within Waterloo Region
  • Anyone looking to learn more about services available to seniors in our community

Why should I attend the fair?

  • To learn more about resources and supports available to seniors in our community
  • To hear presentations
  • Speak with local service providers
  • Participate in a City of Waterloo fitness or age-friendly technology class
  • Receive a hearing screening or blood pressure check in our health clinics
  • A chance to win a door prize or presentation prize
  • A resource swag bag for those who pre-register in advance of the fair
  • Light refreshments
  • And of course, the fair is completely free of charge for all attendees!

Option 2: Call 519-579-1020 and speak with our Customer Service staff who can help register you for the fair.

Host: Iman Tabbara, AgePro Senior Home Care Services

Info: Diabetes affects millions of older adults. Understanding how to manage it is key to staying healthy and independent. This presentation will cover the basics of diabetes, early warning signs, prevention tips, and simple lifestyle changes that can make a big difference. Seniors will also learn how to manage diabetes better if already diagnosed.

Aging with Pride: Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ Seniors and Their Communities
Host: Suzie Taka, SPECTRUM Waterloo Region's Rainbow Community

Info: This session will highlight the experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors and the people who support them. We'll look at data showing both the challenges and strengths within our communities, talk about why some seniors feel they must conceal their identities, and unpack how gendered systems can create harm. We'll also celebrate the history and impact of local queer elders, and share how Spectrum's ongoing work, together with families, caregivers, and community allies, can continue to improve the lives of seniors across Waterloo Region.

Info: Seniors are encouraged to attend to learn about cardiovascular risk factors that impact their health and well-being. The session will also introduce the PREvent Clinic, a program designed to support heart health through education, early detection, and personalized prevention strategies.

Info: Come try a free fitness class. Limited spaces are available and pre-registration is required. If you'd like to attend please select this 'Add-On' when registering. For those 55+ and over, this class will focus on gentle yoga poses performed with the support of a chair. Together we will cultivate awareness and deep relaxation through breath work and gentle stretches, all without needing to get up and down off the floor. This class is offered in Fitness Studio 1.

Participants build awareness, learn to self-regulate the nervous system and deepen self understanding of their body through slow, simple yoga postures and breath work. Overall benefits may include increased mobility, better sleep, stress management, pain reduction and improved mental health. This class is offered in Fitness Studio 1.
