About this Event

Housing Support for Young People Impacted by ExtraFamilial Harm

Housing insecurity is one of the most persistent and complex challenges facing young people exposed to violence, exploitation and other risks occurring outside the family home, defined as extra‑familial harm (EFH). Yet there remains limited evidence on the scale of need and what effective housing responses look like for young people who may need to relocate quickly and safely.

To address these gaps, London’s Violence Reduction Unit in collaboration with UCL has undertaken a systematic review focused on the housing needs of 16–25‑year‑olds impacted by extra‑familial harm.

This seminar and roundtable event will bring together practitioners, policymakers, housing providers and researchers to share emerging insights from the research, reflect on current practice, and options for collaborative and co-ordinated responses to this harm in London.

About the Event

This session will include:

  • Share emerging findings from the VRU–UCL research project
  • A panel discussion, drawing on different perspectives on the issue and focused on practical solutions.

Who should attend

This event will be particularly relevant for:

  • Housing associations and supported accommodation providers
  • Local authority housing and homelessness teams
  • Safeguarding, youth justice and social care professionals
  • Violence reduction, exploitation and public health leads
  • Voluntary and community sector organisations working with young people
  • Researchers and policy professionals with an interest in housing, safeguarding or contextual harm
