Harvesting seeds is a cost-efficient and exciting way to increase the number of plants in your garden. Learn the best techniques for collecting and storing seeds produced by our native trees, shrubs, and perennials. Following a brief lecture, participants will head out to the gardens for hands-on seed collecting. Take home a diverse array of samples from Mt. Cuba’s gardens.
This program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba Center on Thursday, October 10, 2024 (Rain Date: Thursday, October 17).
About the Instructor:
Claire Zuidervliet is the Conservation Propagator at Mt. Cuba Center, where she propagates a variety of native plants in the conservation research greenhouse. She likes investigating the unique propagation requirements for each species and finds great joy in the first signs of germination. The most rewarding part of her job is propagating plants for partner organizations to restore vulnerable populations in nature. Claire previously held a Senior Grower position at Longwood Gardens, where she managed the propagation and care of the specialty Chrysanthemum stock plant collection. She earned her B.S. in Floriculture and Nursery Production from Delaware Valley University.
