About this Event
Manchester Counter-mapped
See My World brings a new heritage trail set to transform the streets of Manchester into a living archive, uncovering the city's vital role in the birth and evolution of Pan-Africanism.
About the trail
A one-time hosted walking trail guided by local historian Linford Sweeney and rooted in the enduring legacy of the 1945 Pan-African Congress, the trail maps key sites across the city, connecting past and present through storytelling, memory, and place. From historic meeting points to overlooked landmarks, each stop reveals a chapter of Manchester’s deep and often underrepresented connection to history.
The trail will be split into two parts:
Part 1: Guided tour with Historian, Linford Sweeney
Meeting point: Grosvenor East Building, M15 6BG
Time: 3:30 PM
Part 2: Legacy Celebration
Meeting point: Kath Locke Centre, M15 5DD
Time: 6:00 PM
*If you are attending the first part, there will be a bus to take us from the trail to the Kath Locke Centre where food and refreshments will be provided.
More than a trail
This project acts as a community platform for the preservation of Manchester’s Pan-African history by embedding the stories and local memories of Manchester’s Black communities into Manchester’s streets. Ensuring that Black History and Pan-African heritage is not only remembered but actively experienced and passed on.
