Join us for January’s Second Saturday ArtWalk as we present
“Cerebral and Synesthetic Painting”
featuring January’s Featured Artist, Mike Cannata, with the exhibition curated by resident artist WasĂl, who will also debut a fresh display of his newest works.
About the Featured Artist | Mike Cannata
Mike Cannata (b. 1996, Chicago, IL) explores the translation of the cerebral into the material through visual art. His work is rooted in altered states of mind experienced through synesthesia, daydreaming, music, meditation, and adrenaline, resulting in emotive, immersive artworks that preserve fleeting internal experiences through form and material.
Cannata is a multimedia artist working across large-scale painting, sculpture, installation, and ceramics, with the past decade focused primarily on ceramics. His practice often features larger-than-life sculptural forms and oozing, expanding glaze processes, creating narrative-driven, gestural, and emotionally charged works.
He is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the University of South Florida and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The New York State School of Ceramics at Alfred University. From 2021–2023, Cannata participated in a long-term residency at the Morean Center for Clay, and in 2020 completed two residencies at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Skaelskor, Denmark. His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and internationally in Denmark, Russia, South Korea, and Romania, including exhibitions at the U.S. Capitol Building, The Chihuly Collection Museum, and the Museum of Nonconformist Art. Cannata currently teaches at the University of South Florida.

This exhibition is curated by WasĂl, Forever Florida Real Estate’s resident artist, who will also present a fresh display of his newest work.
WasĂl’s practice is deeply influenced by spirituality, line, and movement. His work is a synthesis of painting, installation, and sculpture, rooted in both Western and Eastern art traditions. WasĂl holds a BA in Art Studio from San Francisco State University and an MFA in Studio Art from the Arts and Consciousness program at John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, CA. His work is held in permanent collections across the U.S. and internationally, and his practice is grounded in art’s ability to transform, inspire, and be fun.
