About this Event
Join us on Wednesday, June 3, at 6 p.m., for an insightful conversation with Janet Tran of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Tran will discuss President Reagan's vision for his Presidential Library and Foundation; the importance of presidential sites as hubs for democracy and civics; and how public service positively impacts our communities, our country, and our world.
Tran will also shed light on how the Reagan Library preserves over 60 million pages of historical records and 90,000 artifacts and uses them to engage and educate the public on how their different initiatives carry forward President Reagan's call for an “informed patriotism.”
The program will be available on the Clinton Center’s YouTube channel the following day.
ASL interpretation is available during our events.
This series is presented by the Clinton Foundation.
More about the speaker
Janet Tran is Director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum within the National Archives and Records Administration, where she leads the nation’s most visited presidential library and stewards more than 60 million presidential and gubernatorial records and over 90,000 artifacts. Her work focuses on strengthening democratic institutions, expanding civic learning, and convening diverse leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue across differences.
Prior to her current role, Janet served as founding director of the Center for Civics, Education, and Opportunity at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. After joining the Reagan Foundation in 2010, she helped design and expand a national civic learning portfolio inspired by President Reagan’s call for an “informed patriotism.” These initiatives include immersive civic simulations, educator training, curriculum development, and student leadership programs that reach hundreds of thousands of learners annually and award more than $1 million in scholarships each year.
In 2015, Janet helped establish the Reagan Institute’s Washington, DC office and launched Leadership and the American Presidency (now the Academy for Civics Education and Democracy), an accredited experiential leadership program that brings university students to Washington to study democratic leadership while interning and engaging across political and ideological differences. She later founded the Reagan Institute Summit on Education (RISE), a bipartisan national convening that brings educators, policymakers, and civic leaders together to address polarization, civic learning, and the future of education in America.
Janet began her career as a teacher-leader in South Los Angeles at John C. Fremont High School and Camino Nuevo Charter Academy. She previously served on the board of Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE) and the advisory board of the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE). She currently serves on the advisory council of the iCivics CivXNow coalition. Her work reflects a commitment to strengthening democratic participation, expanding opportunity, and cultivating the next generation of citizen leaders.
Janet earned a BA in History from the University of California, Los Angeles, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Northridge, and a Doctorate in Education in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University.
