The Battle of Bosworth Field on 22nd August, 1485, was the decisive conflict of the Wars of the Roses. King Richard III's royal army was defeated by a smaller rebel force led by Henry Tudor. Richard was killed in the fighting, ending the Plantagenet dynasty and beginning the Tudor era.
