Down-and-out guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black), in desperate need of work, poses as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school. As he gets his privileged and precocious charges channelling the rock gods he idolises and emulates, he imagines redemption at the local Battle of the Bands competition.
