Boy is an 11-year-old dreamer living in remote Waihau Bay in 1984, who loves Michael Jackson. Boy’s other hero, his father Alamein, is the subject of Boy’s fantasies – he imagines him as a hero (and a close relation of Michael Jackson’s). In reality, Alamein is an inept wannabe gangster in jail for robbery. When Alamein returns after seven years away, Boy must confront the man he thought he remembered and make sense of his world.
