Amsterdam, queer capital of the world is an appealing and urgent book about freedom, visibility, history and the future. The book opens with Mayor Femke Halsema: ‘Amsterdam is and remains a place that is known both within and outside the Netherlands as a place where you can be yourself in freedom and safety.’
For years, Amsterdam had a reputation as the “gay capital”. Is that still the case today?
This book takes you on a journey through iconic moments in the LGBTQI+ history of the city and the Netherlands. The rich photography and historical documents give the story depth and power. With personal interviews with the Dutch pioneers who influenced the world on lhbtiqa+ human rights like marriage equality, aids research, refugees etc.
