RLAC x Brokers Bar Jazz Club: Joan Fort Trio & Benjamin Herman
About this Event
The Red Light District Brokers Bar Jazz Series is back! Almost every Friday in June & July, live contemporary jazz inside the historic Beurs van Berlage building, with specialty cocktails and stunning views of Centraal. Our first concert features legendary saxophonist Benjamin Herman with the Joan Fort Trio, followed by a players' session.
Deep Roots, Fresh Sound. For over 35 years, saxophonist Benjamin Herman has been one of Holland's most accomplished musicians of his generation. Since the 1990s, he has performed all over the world and released over fifty albums – with his band New Cool Collective and under his own name – spanning traditional jazz, punk jazz, film music and the avant-garde, with collaborations ranging from Dutch poets to pop singers and hip-hop artists.
Three Decades of Jazz Meets a New Generation. Herman joins the Joan Fort Trio, one of the latest projects by Catalan guitarist and composer Joan Fort. Known for their love of swing and uplifting straight-ahead jazz, they draw deeply from the North American tradition. Fort describes his approach simply: "Music as storytelling." The trio has also worked with artists including Jeremy Pelt, Dick Oatts, Vincent Herring, Jorge Rossy, Grant Stewart, and Virginia McDonald.
Rounded out by Philip Lewin on bass and Tim Hennekes on drums, the quartet explores timeless melodies that feel as fresh today as ever.
Players' Session to Follow! After the concert, the music continues with a players’ session – all musicians welcome. Bring your instrument!
An atmospheric evening music lovers shouldn’t miss!
