Overview
Named the Nicest Place in America by Reader’s Digest and recognized as a Tree City, Buchanan is a perfect setting for a fall afternoon walk. This easy, mostly paved, one-mile loop highlights many of the more than 200 handmade scarecrows, along with local landmarks, historic sites, downtown restaurants, and shops. Along the way, you can gather inspiration for building your own scarecrow at the optional post-walk workshop. Walk is free. Workshop is $40.
The Stroll - Free
The Ladies of Love Creek Walking Group, affiliated with Berrien County’s own Love Creek Nature Center & County Park, will be the guide for this fun fall walk. Parking is available on the street and in the Public Parking Lot on Days Avenue across from The Common (park), 122 Days Avenue. Meet at the back entrance of the Buchanan District Library which is behind or to the north of the park (The Common). This free walk is on October 8 from 4:00 - 5:00. Get your ticket by October 2.
The Workshop - $40
The Buchanan Scarecrow Charities will host a Build Your Own Scarecrow Workshop following the walk. The workshop fee includes all materials and guided instructions to create your own make & take junior scarecrow. Each scarecrow will be about four feet tall and dressed in bib overalls and a button-down shirt, usually plaid. You will choose yarn hair, a hat, decorations such as flowers, toys, or stuffed animals, a scarf, and patches to personalize their scarecrow. You may also bring a special item of your own to add. Scarecrows will be pre-stuffed before the group arrives, leaving more time for the fun, creative work of customizing your design. Meet at The Buchanan Scarecrow Charities Factory, 606 A Carroll Street, Buchanan, Michigan. October 8. 5:30 - 6:30. Fee is $40.

Important: Everyone must register for the walk first—even if you only plan to participate in the workshop. Space is limited. Get your ticket by October 2.
