About this Event

Whether you are a veteran spoken word artist or stepping up to the microphone for the very first time, our stage welcomes all poetry styles. Feature poet Tony Robles, The People's Poet! Come celebrate community, culture, and self-expression in a warm, listening room environment. Coffee Underground. 1 East Coffee Street. Greenville, SC 29601. Doors open at 7:00 pm.

Taking the Stage: We love a packed lineup, so open mic slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis when doors open. To make sure everyone gets a chance to shine, please keep it to one poem under 4 minutes including intro. If time allows, we will host a second round.
$10. TICKETS AT THE DOOR: If seats are still available at showtime, we will happily take tickets at the door via tap, credit card, Cash App ($witsendpoetry), PayPal, Venmo or cash.

Tony Robles, “The People’s Poet” was born in San Francisco and is the nephew of Filipino-American poet, historian and social justice activist Al Robles. He was the 2020 Carl Sandburg WIR. He was a shortlist nominee for poet laureate of San Francisco in 2017 and the recipient of the San Francisco Art Commission individual literary artist grant in 2018. His two books of poetry and short stories, Cool Don’t Live Here No More - A letter to San Francisco and Fingerprints of a Hunger Strike (both published by Ithuriel’s Spear Press) take on the issues of eviction, gentrification and police violence in communities of color. He is also the author of two children’s books, Lakas and the Manilatown Fish and Lakas and the Makibaka Hotel, published by Children’s Book Press and Lee and Low. Tony now resides in Hendersonvilole, SC.
