About this Event
What better time for hands-on learning than September? This fall, join GreenUP Ecology Park and Kawartha Land Trust to learn how to collect and save seed from a variety of native trees, shrubs, forbs, grasses, and sedges.
This unique, two-part workshop series is geared towards anyone who wants to deepen their native plant knowledge and develop some horticultural and conservation skills. You’ll also get to soak up some Vitamin N in two of the region’s wonderful nature areas.
Part I: Seed Collection 101 (GreenUP Ecology Park)
Join GreenUP staff at Ecology Park on Wednesday, September 25th 2024, from 4-6 p.m. for an introduction to harvesting native seeds for propagation. This workshop will be led by Vern Bastable, Director of Ecology Park and certified tree seed collector. Together we will discuss best practices of seed collection and learn how to identify various seed-producing plants.
NOTE: Attendance at Part I is required to participate in the field trip at Dance Nature Sanctuary.
Part II: Field Trip (Dance Nature Sanctuary)
Join GreenUP Ecology Park staff and Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at KLT's Dance Nature Sanctuary near Young's Point for part two of Saving Native Seeds. The seeds collected from this event will directly benefit wetland restoration on Kawartha Land Trust-protected properties and attendees are encouraged to collect seeds for their own projects as well.
