SATYA: Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement
Between the headlines, the notifications, and the run-up to the holidays, many of us are living from the neck up: scanning, bracing, scrolling. This workshop is an invitation to unplug from the virtual news cycle and tune into your own body's tangible sensations. Through slow, small, rhythmic movements, you’ll practice noticing what’s happening inside you without needing to fix or push. We’ll spend most of our time on the floor and close with supported, restful postures.
A trauma-informed space. Every movement is offered as an invitation--You choose how much to do, when to rest, and whether to receive any hands-on support.
Before class: After you register, you’ll receive a short optional questionnaire so Heather can get to know you and come prepared with suggestions tailored to you.
Please note: Because much of this practice is done lying on the back, it isn’t recommended for those 16 or more weeks pregnant. If you have a health condition or concern, please check with your healthcare provider.
*Price: $50 / $40 for Ahimsa members
About our presenter:
Heather is a passionate practitioner and proponent of classical Indian yogic practices and honors the indigenous roots of yogic science. She has been facilitating classes since 2013 and practicing since the late 90s. Her goal is to creatively balance alignment-based flow with meditation, pranayama, and restorative forms into a hatha yoga practice tailored to all levels. She is a 500-hour certified teacher registered with Yoga Alliance, licensed, and insured, and holds specialty certifications in prenatal, children's, and trauma-informed yoga.
She is also certified in SATYA, (Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement), created by Tias Little, which guides students away from “doing” movement and toward sensing, feeling, and “being” movement. The SATYA movements are done on the floor in a flowing fashion without force to increase somatic awareness. The exercises are non-weight bearing and involve sliding, gliding, and circular movements to balance the body’s structure, reduce tension and fatigue and boost immunity.
