Kathmandu Philosophy Club invites you!
For SATURDAY PHILOSOPHY event!
Join a vibrant community of curious minds as we explore life’s deepest questions meaning, purpose, spirituality, and philosophy. This month's interactive session will focus on an engaging topic:
"The Philosophy of Spiritual Beauty in Art"
What makes something truly beautiful?
Is beauty only what we see, or is it also something we experience within? Throughout history, philosophers, artists, and spiritual traditions have explored the relationship between art, beauty, and the human spirit. Beyond aesthetics lies a deeper question:
- Can art become a path to inner transformation?
- What is the relationship between beauty and wisdom?
- How does spiritual practice influence artistic creation?
- Can art help us cultivate compassion, mindfulness, and meaning?
- What makes sacred art different from ordinary art?
This Saturday Philosophy session invites you to explore the philosophy of spiritual beauty in art through the perspectives of Buddhist philosophy, meditation, and traditional artistic practice. Together, we will reflect on how creativity can become a bridge between the outer world of form and the inner world of awareness.
We are honored to host two distinguished guest speakers:
🎙 Dr. John W. Pettit
Dr. John W. Pettit is an American scholar, translator, and educator specializing in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. He holds advanced degrees in Religion and Buddhist Studies from Harvard University and Columbia University, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies. Dr. Pettit is the author of the acclaimed book *Mipham's Beacon of Certainty* (Wisdom Publications, 1999) and has dedicated decades to researching, translating, and teaching Buddhist philosophy, meditation, and contemplative traditions. His work helps bridge classical Tibetan wisdom with contemporary philosophical inquiry.
🎙 Sajib Jyoti Shakya
Sajib Jyoti Shakya is an internationally recognized Nepali artist from Lalitpur whose work uniquely combines traditional Buddhist paubha painting with intricate metal ornamentation. Born into a family connected to the 22nd generation of the historic Mahabuddha Temple lineage, he integrates Buddhist philosophy, meditation, and sacred symbolism into his artistic practice. Through his studio, exhibitions, and educational workshops, he continues to preserve and innovate Nepal's rich artistic heritage. His outstanding contribution to spiritual art was internationally recognized with the **BritRise Art Award 2025**, presented at the House of Lords in London.
Join us for an inspiring afternoon of dialogue where philosophy, spirituality, and art come together to explore one timeless question:
