Constable Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is sent to the sleepy community of Sleepy Hollow to solve a gruesome series of murders. Once again, Tim Burton proves that he is one of the most visually virtuosic big-budget directors with his opulent and highly symbolic horror tale. Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci are at the centre of this morbid murder-mystery minuet, which also takes a humorous bow to various horror classics. Constable Ichabod Crane is sent to the sleepy community of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a gruesome series of murders. In 1799, New York policeman Ichabod Crane is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow, where three headless corpses have been found within a very short space of time. Rumour has it that the ghost of a headless horseman is behind these murders. But Crane, enlightened and progressive, is sure that there is a logical, i.e. natural, explanation for all the strange occurrences. Far from it! The upright lawman is soon forced to admit the existence of the mysterious horseman. In 1799, New York policeman Ichabod Crane is tasked with solving the murder of three people found without their heads in the small town of Sleepy Hollow. Unlike the townspeople, the rational-minded Crane initially refuses to believe in a supernatural explanation. Tim Burton's gripping horror tale based on the novel by Washington Irving, brilliantly directed by Emmanuel Lubezki and featuring a convincing Johnny Depp as the representative of reason and state power.

Der aufrechte Gesetzeshüter muss sich alsbald die Existenz des mysteriösen Reiters eingestehen. Der New Yorker Polizist Ichabod Crane soll 1799 im Städtchen Sleepy Hollow die Ermordung dreier Menschen, die ohne Kopf aufgefunden wurden, aufklären. Im Gegensatz zu den Stadtbewohnern weigert sich der rational denkende Crane zunächst, an eine übernatürliche Erklärung zu glauben. Tim Burtons mitreißendes Horror-Märchen nach der Vorlage von Washington Irving, brillant ins Bild gesetzt von Emmanuel Lubezki und mit einem überzeugenden Johnny Depp als Vertreter der Vernunft und Staatsgewalt.
