Dear Central Coast Beach Dancers,Here is your invitation to join us tomorrow, Saturday the 4th at 12 noon, to dance with DJ Cayroo (Reuel) on the sands of Morro Bay! You'll find all of the details you need, including directions to get to this beach, toward the end of this post. In the meantime, here are some words that this week's DJ would like to share to welcome you to the dance:
~
This set of dance songs is about community. I call it, Together We Will Bring Our Revival, from the Naaman song because we find more strength and focus being seen for who we really are inside. Please bring your authentic self to share any emotions you are feeling and want to express or work with using movement.
The ocean helps me to wash away old patterns and I invite you to use wind, water, sand, and the fire in your heart to create your own experience. Dancers help me to love myself from within, so I can share my expression with others. Join us in Morro Bay at noon for an inner revival of Spirit.

If you are new to our beach dances, please read on: this post has lots of information about how they work. This dance is a communal act of love and there is no charge to join us.
Want to join us but don't have Spotify? We have an outdoor speaker that will amplify the playlist for those of you who wish to join us without headphones or a Spotify connection. We are also still utilizing our silent-disco style dance, where you bring your own headphones and smartphone/music player, for all of us who have Spotify downloaded onto our phones and who enjoy the freedom of running wild off into the sand and surf!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dancers, we welcome you with open arms, knowing that this is our chance to step into our bodies, to feel into our hearts, to touch what is true and real for us, and to embrace all that arises on the shifting sands of the beach. Bring whatever you are carrying with you, whether it's joy, pain, confusion, wild abandon - and let yourself be welcomed by the waves and the birds and the sand. Move with possibility... move with unknowing... move with stillness... move with sorrow... however you wish to be, it all belongs here.
Especially when so much of our world seems so constantly shifting and changing, it feels so deliciously connective to continue our beach dancing tradition that we started in late March of 2020 in response to the pandemic and the need to dance more safely outdoors. Now we continue because it has become a deep and delicious practice of communing with nature and each other in ways we could not imagine before we were pushed to explore it. This practice has become fundamental and life changing for many of us. If you've been curious about joining us for a while, please take this as YOUR special invitation - we would love to welcome you onto the sand and into the arms of Mother Nature.
Our Conscious Dances are deeply somatic, deliciously funky, and perhaps like no other dance you have ever been to.
We are different in intent than most Ecstatic Dances, which encourage ecstasy by letting go of your difficult feelings and transcending them. Instead, our desire is to create a container for you to go deeply in to your feelings and ground in your body through movement, rather than rise above. We come from the somatic perspective that moving inward toward the painful feelings we want to avoid - instead of trying to fix or let go of them - will lead us organically into ease and joy as we integrate and embrace all parts of ourselves. The very feelings and parts that we have rejected can become resources and friends, rather than something to fix. Through this practice, we become more whole and joyfulness simply arises from being fully present, without effort or transcendence.
When you join us on the beach, you will hear lots of variety, as our many DJs each weave their own individual tapestries from many different genres - including world rhythms, blues, funk, classical, and even some pop songs, but all of our musical choices and lyrics are meant to guide you toward plunging in deeper toward yourself, toward your emotions, and toward whatever is alive for you.
Our joyful, playful, conscious, and even ecstatic dance comes from the journey in and through, and embraces the full human experience with its deep grounding connection to the body and the earth, even when we are soaring toward the sky!
Below you'll find the tips and tricks for our beach dance, and for navigating our Morro Bay location for our dance:
Directions to the Morro Bay beach, coming from SLO:
1. Go north on Highway 1 toward Cayucos, then turn left onto San Jacinto Ave at the stoplight (past most of the Morro Bay exits).
2. Turn left at the very end of San Jacinto where it meets up with Sandalwood Ave.
3. Turn right onto Azure St, and you will find a parking lot there to pull into. There are restrooms located in the parking lot for your convenience. There is also street parking available should the parking lot ever become too full.
4. After you park, head down the wide sand path left of the restrooms that takes you straight out to the beach.
You can also type in 150 Azure Street to get to the parking lot, but it’s helpful to have these directions too in case you like to navigate yourself.
If you are late and we have already started, just come over to the speaker and listen to what song we're on so you can sync up with us. We will dance for a full hour, with some time afterward for a closing sharing circle, so be sure and prepare to join us from 12 noon until roughly 1:30 or so.
Keep reading for Spotify directions, for those of you who would enjoy the freedom of dancing with your own headphones freely up and down the beach:
If you have Spotify, you can download this playlist before you arrive so that you can put your phone on airplane mode for uninterrupted streaming. You'll need the paid version of Spotify ($10 a month) for this to work because the free version plays songs out of order. Cell coverage is spotty on the central coast, so download ahead of time.
Set up a 7 second cross-fade ahead of time by going to Home > Settings (the cog on the top) > Playback, and adjusting the cross fade to 7 seconds. This will allow you to be totally in sync with us.
Make sure to bring your own headphones and device to play the music (and consider bringing a fanny pack or shorts with pockets to hold your device). Then click the first song on the playlist (not the green arrow at the top, which will put your playlist on shuffle) when we say to start so we can all be in sync. Be sure "shuffle" is off!
Feel free to contact us if any of this is confusing and you need help!
It is sometimes cool and windy by the ocean, so consider dressing in layers and bringing extra warm gear, but also wearing sunscreen or a hat, and a bathing suit if you might want to take a dip afterward, as even in the winter it is often possible to swim and sunbathe.
See you soon!
