In this workshop, students will learn how to create their own Sashiko Hana-Fukin designs using traditional-inspired stencils and simple hand stitching techniques. Hana-fukin, meaning “flower cloth,” are square embroidered cloths traditionally used in the home as kitchen towels, tea cloths, or decorative textiles.
Using stencils as a guide, students will design and transfer patterns onto fabric before exploring the rhythmic running stitches that define Sashiko embroidery. This approach allows beginners to confidently create beautiful geometric or nature-inspired designs while learning the balance, repetition, and flow that make Sashiko so calming and rewarding.
This workshop offers a relaxed and creative space to slow down, experiment with pattern and design, and experience the quiet beauty of stitch-by-stitch handwork while creating something uniquely your own.
