I’m bringing my Sashiko 101 workshop from Montreal to Calgary for a special pop-up!
Welcome to the enchanting world of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese embroidery technique that originated in the 17th century. Originally developed to reinforce and mend fabric, Sashiko is celebrated for its practicality and simple yet striking geometric patterns.
In this beginners’ workshop, you will create a small item with Sashiko. Through this process, you will learn to authentically draw traditional Sashiko patterns and master the art of Sashiko Unshin (運針) - the needle movement renowned for its efficiency and meditative effects. You'll also learn the meanings behind each motif and be ready to sew more complex Sashiko patterns on your own.
