About this Event

Join for a powerful guided driving tour exploring the historic Black churches of San Antonio—institutions that helped shape faith, freedom, education, civil rights, and community leadership.

This educational experience traces African American history from Reconstruction through the Civil Rights Movement and into the present day. Along the way, participants will learn how Black churches served as more than places of worship. They also functioned as schools, meeting halls, organizing centers, social-service institutions, and safe spaces for generations of African Americans.

Through live narration and visits to historic sites, this tour highlights the courage, faith, resilience, and self-determination of San Antonio’s Black community.

Tour Highlights Include
  • St. Paul United Methodist Church, organized in 1866
  • Mount Zion First Baptist Church
  • New Light Baptist Church
  • Historic Black Catholic and AME congregations
