Sam Fest: Ecstatic Grief Dance
About this Event
An open-to-the-community version of the Ecstatic Grief Dance a few friends and I have created every September since Sam died. This is a beautiful evening that includes 3 hours of a curated playlist to move through our grief (anger, apathy, numbess, hope, joy…), and rituals for before and after, including honey-eating and (optional) sharing of our experiences of the dance.
There's no talking during this kind of movement, but you can lie down, sit, dance, eat or drink during the session, whatever your body and heart need most. Lights will be dim, music will be decently loud. Snacks and hydration will be provided (note: this is an alcohal-free event). If you’re interested in participating in this kind of event, please sign up so we know how many to plan for.
*Bring an item or photo of remembrance of a loved one to put on our communal memorial display for the evening.
Between these two events will be the anniversary of my sister Sam’s death, September 8th. We will be handing out little beeswax tealights, which you can use in whatever way you want to recognize this time of year. If you didn’t know Sam then let it support you in your own remembrances of those you’ve lost or to honour other transitions in your life, however you see fit.
