Join CANDLES on November 8 for the annual Walter Sommers Lecture on Holocaust History with author Alexandra Zapruder, exploring her acclaimed book Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust. Zapruder will share the stories and firsthand accounts of young people who experienced the Holocaust. Through these personal writings, we will consider how the words of young people can deepen our understanding of the Holocaust and preserve individual experiences for future generations.
Alexandra Zapruder is an author, educator, and Holocaust scholar. She began her career as a member of the founding staff of USHMM, where she worked on the exhibition Remember the Children: Daniel’s Story. She is the author of Salvaged Pages, which won the National Jewish Book Award in the Holocaust category. Zapruder currently serves as Education Director of The Defiant Requiem Foundation and is involved in Holocaust and human rights education.
The Walter Sommers Lecture on Holocaust History is an annual program honoring the late Walter Sommers, a CANDLES docent, supporter, and Holocaust survivor, for his untiring dedication to Holocaust education.
This program is free to attend. No registration is required.
